Do you belive in ghosts and/or spirits?
Have you had any experiences you would like to share?

I once lived in a place where the lights in the hall way would come on randomly at night. I raised this with my wife who quite calmly said we had a friendly ghost living with us. I don't believe in the super natural but for some reason could not counter her point.

I voted no, but leave room open for possibilities. There is so much we don't know about our physical world. Science postulates parallel universes and dark matter. Humans are also only calibrated to see in the visible spectrum and if there are beings that only reflect x-rays or infrared, then they could be standing right in front of us and we wouldn't see them. The more we understand, the more we realize what we don't understand.

Yep, as Kant stated, our world view is made up of the perceptual categories given to our consciousness - outside of that we know nothing.

Ha. NO! Belief in spirits and things we can not see is just like believing in a deity; outdated.

I used to work in an old pub, that had its origins in the Gold Rush here, original site was from the 1850's. Anyway we had a presence in the guest rooms, I named him Luke the Spook, he used to walk up the hall, and often knock on doors in the early hours of the morning, and just do mischievious things. I was cleaning a room one day to look up and see him standing in the doorway looking at me, he was dressed like a miner, then he just gradually vanished. That was the day I no longer disbelieved.
Of course there are spiritual entities all around us, whatever tag you wish to label them with, but I would never expect someone that has not experienced the supernatural to accept this as fact let alone understand the differences between the good guys and the bad guys in the spiritual realm.

I've had a bunch of 'experiences' that depending on my frame of mind have had meaning or not.
Right now I truly believe our brains are wired to do some pretty strange shit and we are all born with pretty much the same software loaded, give or take.
Considering how everything we experience has to pass through the 5 senses, I blame the brain for running amok at times and confusing dreams, reality and memories up in a big spaghetti. We are already deluded as to what 'reality' is, so its no surprise we can fool ourselves easily.
I think our underlying stress and emotions leak out at times in unexpected or easily explained ways ... hence many 'phenomena' we all kinda wish for ..... so there, thats my two pennies worth !
G'day jenva.
Lived in a house where the doors would open one after another, front door, living room door sitting room, etc, scared the cr## out of me family at first but got used to it,oh,the doors would open wide, then close.saw a girl with no legs when i was 7,floating down the rd to the park at night.Saw,along with 30 other boys,3 dead kids in our carehomes cemetery, called the staff and just watched for 5 mins, evidently they were killed by a stray bomb during WW2.Dont know what these things are, like the theory about houses etc being like photo paper and recording stuff, doesnt scare me anymore.

I'm a skeptic of the beyond ... believing firmly that if ghosts existed, there would be billions of them. I must admit to experiencing spookiness, unexplained phenomena, but I can't go as far as to say "a ghost did it".
If you've ever experienced hallucinations, migraine lights, or the fugue before an epileptic fit, you'd understand that the human brain is capable of generating any/all senses, including sounds and smells. Blame the brain, not the spirit world ... it's MUCH MORE likely.

I am a bit of a ghost hunter. Ive been to many cemeteries at night. Some of them felt like just a walk through a dark park. Others have a VERY different feeling.
There is a cemetery near my house that was surrounded on all sides by a plant nursery until recently. ((its currently being inveloped by a houseing complex which i find very sad)) Now this cemetery is one of the oldest in southern california. The official date of its opening is 1876 , however , it was being used by the native americans when the spainards arrived in the 1500's. At that time it was called San Felipe hill.
The burial records show roughly 350 burials. Not listed are the poor who couldnt afford headstones and the native americans. Its the final resting place of civil war vets , wyatt erps daughter and a few other moderatly famous people.
I learned of this place through rumors that there was a haunted cemetery in my city. People were always talking about a man in one of the trees there.
One night me and a friend decided to go check it out. It was our first time going there. We had been to cemeteries at night before. A few of which had a "creepy vib" but nothing like this place. As we approached the main gate we both had this unshakeable feeling of being stared at. Not just eyes looking at us , but being down right glared at. We slipped in next to the main gate where the fence is broken and started makeing our way up the hill. As we approached the grape fruit grove inside the cemetery, ((by the way the fruit there is delicious!)) , we heard something SLAM onto the ground. It wasnt just like the wieght of a man. It was more like the kind of slam that you would hear if you could manage to throw a car engine over a fence. Imediatly after the massive slam we heard something running inhumanly fast through the dead leaves of the grape fruit grove. We pointed our flash lights at the noise which kept happening for a good 10 seconds after our lights were pointed at it , but there was nothing to be seen. We stood there for a few minutes smokeing a cigg and trying to rationalize what had happend. We could never agree on what had made the slam , but the running sound , we chalked up to being an animal we just didnt see. ((i still have my doubts about that))
We wandered around for 15 or 20 minutes while still feeling that glared at sensation.
We snapped a bunch of photos. Lots of the photos we took had orbs and streaking lights in them. We grew bored and decided to leave by hopping the fence at the top of the hill near the pepper trees. As we approached the pepper trees my friend motioned for me to stop. He looked scared sh*tless. He pointed up at one of the pepper trees to what looked like a man , dressed in 1800's style clothes with a top-hat , sitting on one of the branches up in the tree. He wasnt solid but he wasnt see-through either. Semi-transparent but fuzzy. ((hard to explain)) We stood there trying to adjust our eyes , thinking maybe we had blind-spots on our eyes from all the flash photos. We inched toward the tree and the man who was sitting up there floated down and toward us. We ran so damn fast we were back out the main gate and out of the nursery in probably under a minute.
To this day my biggest regret is running from him/it. I would give ANYTHING to be able to go back and stand my ground. Ive been back many times both by myself and with friends. Every so often it feels like im being stared at but not in a hostile way like that first night. Other than more orb and streaking light photos , nothing else has happened there , much to my dissapointment.
100% true story. Disbelive me if you like , but dont bash me about it. It happened.

Hollow your comment was great, thanks for sharing. I used to live on a large, very large farm, and on it was a grave site similar to the one you describe....it had tombstones dating back to the 1790's but thier were also two large mounds that were Native Amareican and also several civil war vets who died in the war were buried there. I've never been the type to be scared of ghosts or anything as the such.....and this place I had visted many times and didnt feel out of the ordinary, until I had some family who came to visit and we were riding atvs when one of my relatives who I did'nt care for to begin with, you guys have some of those I'm sure....lol..but he went down to the cemetary and broke one of the really old tombstones and carried it home with him. Like I said I was never afraid of things like this and we had'nt known at the time that he even had done this......but after that I got this unusual feeling when I went there and for years I could'nt explain it I just avoided the area........until I moved from there and we sold off almost all the land to a developer......I started to go back as all these houses were being built and making sure the cemtary was'nt disgraced in any manner and would clean up around the cemtary as it was pretty small......and I can't explain the difference I felt after going there a few times and cleaning......I was at complete peace there after that, when before I felt like I was'nt wanted there.....and I know this is'nt my mind playing tricks on me because as I said I did'nt at this time know about what my relative did and had no fear of things of that nature. It's really hard to explain but I know there was some type of energy there that changed after I went to care for the place, I know this for fact. I don't know what it was but it happened.

Therefore, your interest in old and abandoned sanitariums arose.... Good going, bro! You'll find what you're looking for one of these times! A schizophrenic ghost would be fun to run into, don't you agree? What about a hallucinating ghost? I wonder if ghosts, if they are out there, can have mental illnesses? PMS ghosts? Depressed ghosts? Some ghosts are more outgoing than others? I bet so, if they are there! :)

I don't know about the term "ghost" as much as I do spirit. I don't know much of the difference except that ghost is just a creepier word for saying spirit. I believe after you die your spirit can be left behind or trapped. Reminds me of that movie 13 Ghosts.

Ghosts, spirits, goblins, entitys, gods, whatever. All superstitious leftovers from the dark ages. Every "sighting" that has been seriously investigated has been debunked. They are usually staged for some type of monetary gain.

I've started seeing/interacting with spirits and the paranormal since age 5.
Currently, we live in a rented house going on 5 years. It was owned by an elderly lady and was deeded over to her grandson before she died. During the first 2 years living here, she was very active. For instance, we like the house cooler than most - around 60-62 degrees in the winter time. We also keep the fan in kitchen on and even run fans in our rooms.
(Yes, even in winter.) Anyway, Grandma or Doris, used to like the house hot and would set the thermostat to the 90's. We'd wake up in the middle of the night just dripping sweat and find the thermostat pegged at 90!!
She also smoked, and I would find that my cigarettes would disappear faster than I smoked and the butts would either wind up in the toilet, or the ashtray would be filled.
We asked her grandson about this and he confirmed that she did like the house hot, and would smoke and leave her cigarettes around. He also asked us if we had any problems witht the doors - cause she was always locking them. (We did.)
We finally came to a compromise with Doris. I told her to leave the thermostat alone and that if she was cold, to put a sweater on. I left several sweaters and sweat shirts out for her to use and a blanket on the couch. In the mornings, I would find the blanket or a sweatshirt in the chair.
I told her she could have to my smokes, but that she had to use the ashtray.
Doris also loved flowers, so I planted a flower garden for her in front of the living room window. I also have some geraniums in planters, 2 ginkgo trees with ivy in planters, and a wisteria with ivy in a planter. I bring them in to the house over winter. I don't do much care for them, just water every month or so. Last winter, my plants nearly died when I brought them in. I was so disgusted. I said to my husband that if I'd of known the plants would just about die, I wouldn't have wasted my time caring for them. I said I'd try one last time come next winter.
Even though she hasn't been quite active the past 3 years, I know that she is around.
How do I know? Because it's January - there's snow on the ground and the forecast says it'll snow tomorrow with the high's in the 20's (minus wind chill). It's 60 degrees in the house.
So, what does that have to do with my knowing Grandma is around? Because my geraniums are in full bloom!!! I'm the only one in town who has geraniums in hanging planters with bright red flowers. As a matter of fact, all my plants are thriving. I have an ivy in the bathroom that has grown 3 inches this winter. It has been hanging in the same spot for 4 years now, not having grown an inch.
I've always lived with spirits. I guess it's because to me, they are not dead. I treat them as I would any living person.
This past summer I worked in a museum that is haunted. It used to be an old school house built in 1895 and turned into a museum in 1967. It is listed as one of the top 5 most haunted places in our state. (In one book the top 5, in another top 10.) We've had 2 paranormal groups run investigations for 4 years in a row now.
We've had some gnarly experiences there this past summer. I do mean gnarly as in scary, scream my head off and pee my pants gnarly. We had the investigators come and help us cross over a lot of souls and clean out an entity. What brought this to a head was when my husband wound up with 2 long, ugly red scratches on his right cheek and when I was hit in the head with a book.
Despite that, I'm still going to work ther during the summer months until I'm too old to work. I love it there and the resident spirits who live there.

I'm not sure I accept any of the man made theories regarding the afterlife or demons or what have you. However, I haven't had any "strong" experiences since I was about 18 or so and the years have a habit on dulling the edge of most feelings. I think I'd settle for 'Yes, there's something but I'll be damned if I know what it is'.

When I was a kid I was home alone with my dog,a retired police German Sheppard who could damn near talk he was so smart.I was on my bed facing the bedroom door with the dog at the foot of the bed,I was talking on the phone to a friend staring out the door way but not really looking at anything.Next thing I see is a big white flash fly down the hall past my door.My dog leapt off the bed towards the doorway ready to kill.I was sure,as was the dog someone ran by super fast towards the other bedrooms in the house.I immediatly jumped up behind the dog grabbing a baseball bat along the way, never once taking my eyes off the doorway. My dog immediatly went into chase mode as he entered the doorway but had every hair on his body standing straight up and was aggressivly but very cautiously moving forward. He went door to door and checked every room with me and my bat close behind. He was not only looking intensly but was sniffing the air like he was hyperventilating,we checked all the bedrooms, bathrooms and closets ending at a dead end in my parents room and nothing in sight. It took my dog about 2 hours to calm down and he searched the entire house about 10 times, almost like he was saying no fricken way, which was pretty much what I was saying.
It wasn't what I saw thats stuck with me to this day but the way my dog,a trained, smart alert unfoolable creature reacted. There wasn't a doubt in his mind something flew by that door nor mine,to this day I know something flashed by but have yet to figure out what it was.Something I'll never forget........

I read somewhere that the ships of explorers weren't visible to the natives simply because there was nothing like them in their experience. Perhaps we are blinded by parental admonitions, (there's no such thing), societal pressure (keep that up and we'll throw away the key) etc. I've had my share of inexplicable experiences and feel anything is possible. Life would be pretty dull otherwise.

Do you belive in ghosts and/or spirits?
Have you had any experiences you would like to share?
Interesting that you bring this up, Hollow. To be quite honest, I'm sure there are things out there immune to the naked eye or even the most advanced of technology. Why this is so, is beyond me and something beyond the control or understanding of everyone on this planet.
I certainly do believe in something of a more sub-human existance, but nothing entity or deity like with some quasi-supernatural abilities. I've never had any personal experience with anything of a 'ghostly' nature - but I asure you the day I do (if applicable) I'll be more than willing to share my tale of the bewilderd with you.

I'm agnostic when it comes to ghosts. I don't believe them until I see evidence with my own eyes.
Our brains are not hardwired to our eyeballs. What we see has to travel through our opinions first before we decide what it is.
If you believe in ghosts, then you see them.
How many times as a child did we think we saw a ghost in our closet, or thought we heard breathing under our beds? Upon inspection it was always explainable.

There are 3 main types of demons, water, desert and air. 5 colors, male and female
they average 8 feet tall, their eyes blink sideways, usually either red or yellow.
The smartest one out of them is like that of an 8 year old human child.
They love filth, empty places and avoid humans, unless provoked, ordered by someone to do something for something, or fall in love.
Okay now, you may start calling me crazy. This conversation is not for everyone, trust me.

What about the moment of death? When you actually watch the light leave someones eyes and the expire...could their soul possess, follow, haunt you if you're right there, watching them die?

It's not the souls or 'ghosts' that haunt you, it's one's consciousness! It doesn't just go away.

I never had any sort of experience until a couple of weeks ago... I was at the cemetery(8pm) with a friend and we started to hear someone walking down the road, then a shape started forming and we clearly could see it was the shape of a man, but the man was walking very weird, like it was drunk, after about 15 seconds of looking at it coming towards us I look back at my friend and said "shut up, let me listen" I look back and the dude just vanished. The thing is that we never thought it was a ghost until it disappeard, before that we thought it could be someone shady or something.

In the Toys R Us near where I live (Sunnyvale) they have a ghost living in the warehouse area, it was on unsolved mysteries and if you work in the warehouse for Toys R Us you get a million dollar life insurance because of it (it likes to knock down items from the top shelves)... a friend worked there and he said even if you're alone you can always hear someone messing with the boxes, knocking them down or just foot steps.

Not true at all, not from what I've experienced, in fact 80% of time it's people who are not religious that get possessed.
But we shouldn't break it down as such, it really depends on the situation, type of infliction and how many.

Many, in fact I know of 2 guys who turned very religious after an experience.
Also
Some who are possessed have the symptoms, but act very normal. And only when they're alone, they experience either nightmares, voices, one spot on their body hurts (mostly the joints areas) severe headaces with the forementioned.
There is a very quick way to find out.

It takes a brave soul to come forward and admit they need help, or to start questioning as to what is going on. Their well is totally broken down about life in general.
If anyone is experiencing any of the symptoms that I've mentioned previously, I'll be glad to help.

Man, I gotta call you on that one. I've lived all over the states and NEVER met anyone that even knows someone that was posessed.
As for a true atheist being posessed, now wouldn't THAT be a hoot.
Your cred just dropped a few notches, in my book. Unless you live in some backwoods, third world country, I doubt that you've seen one actual case, and it's BS anyway, so whatever you saw was not a "Posession". More like a cry for attention, from a very misguided, uneducated individual.

And no Police anturaj allowed, let them walk it off.

Also,
It would be very interesting if let's say Hilton's Ghost started to haunt Daws after her unfortunate slip. Would make a most excellent Yoursay.
That's Hawt!

Why?
Why not just ignore them and let them get on with ruining their lives...I couldnt care less what they do!
