Syrian troops pushed into a rebel-held town near the Lebanese border on Sunday, fighting house-to-house and bombing from the air as President Bashar Assad tried to strengthen his grip on a strategic strip of land running from the capital to the Mediterranean coast.

With the regime scoring gains on the battlefield, the U.S. and Russia could face an even tougher task persuading Assad and his opponents to attend talks on ending Syria's 26-month-old conflict. Washington and Moscow hope to start talks with an international conference as early as next month, though no date has been set.

Government forces launched the offensive on the town of Qusair just hours after Assad said in a newspaper interview that he'll stay in his job until elections — effectively rejecting an opposition demand that any talks on a political transition lead to his ouster.

Even though the regime and the main opposition group have not yet committed to attending the conference, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Sunday that he is hopeful it can take place "very soon," possibly in early June. In addition to the U.S. and Russia, he said he has spoken with Britain, France, China and other key parties.

Previous diplomatic initiatives have failed, in part because of divisions within the international community and because the regime and the armed opposition believed they could achieve more on the battlefield than in talks. Russia and the U.S. have backed opposite sides in Syria.

A former Philadelphia police officer once hailed as a hero and given a seat next to the first lady at a speech by President Obama has been arrested and charged with rape and other crimes.

Authorities allege that former officer Richard DeCoatsworth left a party with two females early Thursday and took them to another location, where they allege that he produced a handgun and "forced the two females to engage in the use of narcotics and sexual acts."

A police spokeswoman said the two called police after he left, and 27-year-old DeCoatsworth was charged with rape, sexual assault, terroristic threats and related offenses.

DeCoatsworth was hailed as a hero after he was shot in the face during a traffic stop in September 2007 but still managed to chase after his attacker, who was later sentenced to 36 to 72 years in prison.

DeCoatsworth was invited by Vice President Joe Biden to attend the president's televised February 2009 address to Congress and sat with first lady Michelle Obama. He said he didn't know why he had been singled out, but being in the presence of the nation's leaders was an honor "that I will keep with me for the rest of my life."

WCAU-TV, which first reported his arrest, said DeCoatsworth retired from the department on disability in December 2011.

Police said no other information on the alleged attack would be released Saturday to protect the victims and the integrity of the ongoing investigation. Authorities declined to say give even general locations for the party and alleged crime scene and also wouldn't say when DeCoatsworth was arrested.

A listed number for DeCoatsworth has been disconnected and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told a Philadelphia Daily News columnist

A British father living in France has admitted to killing his two children by slitting their throats, blaming a rocky divorce from his wife, prosecutors said on Sunday.

Police arrested the 48-year-old unemployed man on Saturday after the bodies of his 5-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were found at his apartment in a suburb of the eastern city of Lyon.

"He offered explanations linked to the children's custody," an official from the Lyon prosecutor's office told Reuters.

The mother left the man in 2010 due to family violence and his right to have the children visit him at his apartment, previously the family home, was revoked after a violent episode.

At the time of the murder, he had recently recovered the right to receive the children, and they were staying with him briefly for the first time since then.

The man's ex-wife crossed him in the stairs as he fled the scene on Saturday with blood on his clothes, the official said. She called police who found the suspect in a street in Lyon.

A formal investigation is due to be launched on Monday.

Police gunfire kills Hofstra University student, official says

New York (CNN) -- A Hofstra University student who died during a confrontation between a home invasion suspect and authorities was killed by police gunfire, a Nassau County, New York, police spokeswoman said Saturday.

Police fired eight shots at the intruder, who authorities say was holding a gun to the head of Andrea Rebello, 21, during a home invasion robbery Friday at an off-campus house in Uniondale.

One of the shots hit Rebello in the head, killing her, police spokeswoman Maureen Roach said.

Also killed was the intruder, whom authorities identified as Dalton Smith, 30, of Hempstead. He was struck seven times.

Authorities say Smith was wearing a mask. He invaded the home Rebello shared with her twin sister and two others during the predawn hours on Friday.

At some point, a female roommate of the twins was able to leave the home and call police, a police spokesman told CNN on Friday.

When a police officer arrived, Smith was holding a gun to Rebello's head, Roach said.

He told the officer he was going to kill Rebello, and then turned the handgun toward the officer, she said.

The officer, fearing for his life, drew his gun and fired, Roach said.

Authorities have not identified the officer.

At the time of the shooting, Smith was wanted for jumping parole, police said.

He was on parole for first-degree robbery and had an "extensive" arrest history that includes robbery, assault, and promoting prison contraband, said police in Nassau County.

A warrant for his arrest was issued April 25 for allegedly absconding from parole, police said

Rebello's high school principal, Carol Conklin-Spillane, said the twins' home community in Westchester, New York, was heartbroken.

She described Rebello as a fun-loving, personable and self-aware young woman.

Her parents, Fernando and Nella Rebello, are closely tied to the Portuguese community, and always worked to create opportunities for their children, Conklin-Spillane said.

Rebello, a junior, was majoring in public relations.

Hofstra University said it is offering counseling to students.

"Our hearts and minds and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her friends and her classmates," the university said in a statement.

A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday.

MINEOLA, N.Y. A Hofstra University student being held in a headlock at gunpoint by an intruder was accidently shot and killed by a police officer...

MINEOLA, N.Y. A Hofstra University student being held in a headlock at gunpoint by an intruder was accidently shot and killed by a police officer who had responded to the home invasion at an off-campus home, police said Saturday.

Junior public relations major Andrea Rebello was shot once in the head early Friday morning by an officer who opened fire after the masked intruder pointed a gun at the officer while holding the 21-year-old student, Nassau County homicide squad Lt. John Azzata said.

In a tense confrontation with the officer, gunman Dalton Smith "menaces our police officer, points his gun at the police officer," Azzata said. The officer opened fire, killing Smith and his hostage.

Azzata said the Nassau County police officer fired eight shots at Smith, who police described as having an "extensive" criminal background. Smith was hit seven times and died. Rebello was shot once in the head.

"He kept saying, 'I'm going to kill her,' and then he pointed the gun at the police officer," Azzata said.

A loaded 9 mm handgun with a serial number scratched off was found at the scene, police said.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Dale said he had traveled to Rebello's Tarrytown, N.Y., home to explain to Rebello's parents what happened.

"I felt obligated as a police commissioner and as a parent to inform them as soon as all the forensic results were completed," Dale said.

The veteran police officer, who was not identified, has about 12 years of experience on the Nassau County police force and previously spent several years as a New York City police officer, Dale said.

The officer is currently out on sick leave. He will be the focus of an internal police investigation once the criminal investigation is completed, which is standard police procedure in any officer-involved shooting, the commissioner said.

Earlier Saturday, police announced that Smith, 30, had been wanted on a parole violation related to a first-degree robbery conviction and had an arrest history dating back nearly 15 years.

The shooting came just days before the school's commencement ceremonies, which are scheduled to take place Sunday.

A university spokeswoman said students will be handed white ribbons to wear in memory of Rebello. The shooting, which took place just steps from campus, has cast a pall over the university community as it geared up for commencement on Sunday.

"Today is the last day of finals and this should be a happy day on campus; but it's not," Hofstra freshman Scott Aharoni of Great Neck, said Friday as he passed through the area rife with yellow crime-scene tape. "It's really sad."

Rebello was in the two-story home with her twin sister Jessica, a third woman and a man when Smith, wearing a ski mask, walked into the house through an open front door, Azzata said. Smith demanded valuables and was told they were upstairs, Azzata said.

Smith, apparently unsatisfied with the valuables upstairs, asked if any of the four had a bank account and could withdraw money, Azzata said. The intruder then allowed the unidentified woman to leave and collect money from an ATM, telling her she had only eight minutes to come back with cash before he killed one of her friends, Azzata said.

The woman left for the bank and called 911, according to Azzata.

Minutes later, two police officers arrived at the home and found Rebello's twin sister Jessica running out of the front door and the male guest hiding behind a couch on the first floor, Azzata said.

One of the officers entered the home and encountered Smith holding onto Rebello in a headlock, coming down the stairs, Azzata said. Smith pulled Rebello closer and started moving backward toward a rear door of the house, pointing the gun at her head before eventually threatening the officer, Azzata said.

Rebello's family declined comment Saturday.

The Rev. Osvaldo Franklin, who gave Rebello and her sister Jessica their first communions, on Saturday night told The Associated Press their mother, Nella, couldn't even speak to him earlier in the day.

"She was so devastated," said Franklin. "She's just crying. We have to pray for Andrea, to pray for Jessica because she needs help."

Franklin said a funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., and will be in Portuguese.

"The family's a very good family, they have very good values," he said. "I gave them first communion to Andrea and Jessica and they started to help me in the mass for many years. They are a very good, very devoted family."

SAD. :(

You have to give Imam Shahid Mehdi credit. Unlike a lot of other Muslim clergy who say that women who don’t wear hijabs or burkas or who leave the house deserve to be raped, but then don’t follow up on it, Shahid Mehdi stayed true to his belief that Islamic morality justifies sex crimes by trying to commit a sex crime.
An Islamic mufti in Copenhagen, Shahid Mehdi, has sparked political outcry from the left-wing Unity List and right-wing Danish People’s Party, after stating in a televised interview that women who do not wear headscarves are “asking for rape.”

“Women are not entitled to respect when they walk around without a Hijab. They are to blame for it when they are attacked,” Imam Shahid Mehdi said.

“All the crimes that occur against women is because they are not covered. When they are not covered, you have no respect for them. ”

“She disobeys her master, there are two places in the Qur’an has ordered her to cover themselves (…) Women make a clean society dirty when they walk around without a Hijab. They are not entitled to respect and are not valuable as those who wear a Hijab. ”

Shahid Mehdi made his remarks in the DR2 programme “Talk to Gode,” and reiterated his stance in daily newspaper B.T. The Danish People’s Party and Unity List agree that Mehdi’s remarks could incite Muslim men to rape Danish women by insinuating that women who did not cover their hair were undeserving of basic respect.

As a mufti, a jurist who interprets Islamic law, Shahi Mehdi is in a special position of authority as a Muslim scholar. Mehdi is the Imam of the Islamic Religious Community mosque in Dortheavej in Copenhagen northwest and the Rector of Muslim private school and former leader of the Islamic Cultural Center in Brønshøj.

Given the exaggerated and often made up early life of our dear president, I'm taking the liberty of having a little fun with his birth. Enjoy!

In an undisclosed location where illegal 3rd trimester abortions are performed Obama came into this world with the sound of nearby babies having their spinal cords snipped. Obama was not a natural birth, his mother Ann given birth just 3 weeks earlier to a son fathered by a weakling liberal economist Obama Sr but Obama Jr. was born to Frank Marshall Davis who was a hard core soviet communist. With the older son already at her breast, Ann knew she had to redistribute the wealth in her bosom and handed the the 3 week old baby to a nurse to be disposed of and placed Obama on her tet. Next three wise men entered the clinic, a local labor union leader, a CEO of a Green energy company, and the leader of the Black Panthers with gifts of money, gold, and subprime mortgage documents for the newly born Obama. Obama reached for the wise men's gifts and took a tiny golden hammer with his left hand a tiny golden sickle with his right hand. The final gift was a blank US birth certificate which was handed to Ann who wrote her newborn baby's name as Barack Hitler Stalin Mao Pol Pot Castro Dikembe Mutombo Lenin Hussein Obama which she then handed to a doctor. The doctor complained that the US would not accept such a name at which Ann crossed out all her favorite dictators from Obama's name leaving only her favorite Hussein. The end.

The True Story of How Vincent van Gogh Became Jack the Ripper

Quote:

Vincent van Gogh was not as he seems. In 1888, at the age of 35, he was looking for something unique in art for the upcoming exhibition at the 1889 World’s Fair. He found that uniqueness in murder. He created the persona of Jack the Ripper over that summer and then reaped the power that came from murder when he traveled to London over the autumn to kill again and again as Jack the Ripper.

But Van Gogh was a murderer long before he became Jack the Ripper. He made his first kill fifteen years earlier at the age of 20 when he was transferred from The Hague, Holland to London in May of 1873, by Goupil’s, the art dealer he worked for.

It was believed Vincent first lived in the Battersea area in the S.E. district. He then moved to the nearby Brixton area in August, and on September 5, just five days before his mother’s September 10 birthday, the body parts of an unidentified woman were found floating in the River Thames. Vincent had moved and then had murdered.

Nine months later, in the midst of being rejected by his landlady’s 19-year-old daughter, Vincent murdered again, and the lower half of a woman’s body was found in the Thames.

Over the years, Van Gogh gave up on being an art dealer to be a preacher like his father, but when he failed at that, he turned to becoming a painter. His younger brother, Theo, then supported him financially for the last ten years of his life. Vincent moved back home to Holland but was thrown out by his father due to his contentious attitude. Then in 1885, after Vincent had returned to again live under his father’s roof, his preacher father was found dead on the threshold of his home one fine Sunday afternoon.

Vincent’s sisters and others blamed him indirectly for their father’s sudden death because of the unrelenting arguing and trouble he had caused, but I believe the evidence shows Vincent was more directly responsible for his father’s death, and that, in fact, he laid hands on his preacher father and killed him. He was a serial killer, after all.

Vincent then moved in with Theo in Paris in 1886, but there was a problem. Theo had an ex-girlfriend living in his apartment that he wanted out, and during a time when Theo returned to Holland for a visit, the body parts of a woman were found deposited in street urinals in Paris. Vincent had solved Theo’s problem. Vincent also traveled from Paris to London in 1887 for another murder, and a woman’s body parts were again found in the Thames.

It was then in 1888 that Vincent moved to the South of France for something new in art and discovered that it was murder that would give him the power he needed for his paintings. He made several trips back to London from August to December and murdered seven women under the guise of his created persona, Jack the Ripper. He also killed another during this same time as himself, using his old method, making the total he killed in the year of the eights to be 8.

After cutting off his ear at the end of 1888, Vincent was in and out of the hospital and was then committed to an asylum at his own request, where he then worked on the asylum director to obtain freedom to go out into the country to paint for days at a time. Once he had obtained his freedom, he used it to travel back to London, and he killed three more in 1889.

Vincent’s final murder was his own. He shot himself in the stomach soon after he had moved closer to Paris, and he then died on July 29, 1890. His brother, Theo, then lost his mind from grief and guilt and died six months later.

In VINCENT ALIAS JACK, the words and actions of Vincent van Gogh are meticulously matched up to those of Jack the Ripper. The evidence is overwhelming, and the conclusion is unavoidable—Vincent van Gogh was Jack the Ripper!

I know, I know, libs....nothing to see here. Just another Tea Party conspiracy theory.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/05...-in-us-report/

The jailed doctor who helped the U.S. track down Usama bin Laden was convicted by a tribal court on bogus charges, according to a classified Pakistani government report.

Portions of the voluminous 357-page Abbottobad Commission Report, which has yet to be made public and were obtained exclusively by Fox News, acknowledge Dr. Shakil Afridi’s conviction last year by a government-sponsored Jirga has undermined Pakistan’s credibility. The report calls for Afridi to be given a new trial.

The report also claims Afridi joined the CIA search for Bin Laden five years ago, while he was staying in the U.S. with a cousin. According to the report, Afridi applied for asylum after a terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Islam, stepped up its operations in Pakistan's lawless tribal belt.

“He is my cousin and I love him but I don’t know what I can do to help.”

- Cousin of Dr. Shakil Afridi

Afridi was reportedly kidnapped by the group in 2008 and released after his family paid a $10,000 ransom. After helping the CIA pinpoint the terror mastermind just prior to the 2011 raid in which Navy SEALs killed Bin laden, Afridi was arrested and convicted by the tribal court of colluding with Lashkar-e-Islam.

The State Department declined to comment on the report's claims that Afridi had applied for asylum while staying in the U.S.

The commission report acknowledges Afridi was subjected to harsh treatment in prison, and moved several times to various undisclosed locations by Pakistan’s spy agency. His Pakistani handlers also note his incarceration for a year without judicial process was unfair, according to the report.

In a telephone interview with Fox News last year, Afridi recounted his ordeal in prison.

“My clothes were removed and I was forced by a major to wear old dirty torn rags of an army conductor," Afridi said. "It was difficult to eat food. I had to bend down on my knees to eat with only my mouth, like a dog. I sat on the floor.”

Afridi said he was blindfolded for eight months, and handcuffed with his hands behind his back for a year.

Afridi, who helped confirm the Al Qaeda leader’s presence in an Abbottabad compound, lived for a short period in San Francisco in 2009, according to the report.

“He came to meet my brother and mother, who was not well at that time,” Afridi’s first cousin, a Californian resident and student based in Los Angeles, told FoxNews.com.

It was around that time that Afridi first agreed to work for the CIA, the report said. The deal helped lead to Bin Laden’s death in 2011, and netted Afridi a mere $13,000, according to his statement documented in the report.

Afridi is currently serving a 33-year jail term, and is appealing his conviction. The U.S. has called for Afridi's release, but his supporters say the Obama administration has not done enough to press for his freedom.

“Dr. Afridi is showing us, in a courageous way, that quiet diplomacy isn’t working,” said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., Afridi’s most vocal supporter in Congress.

Afridi’s cousin in California told FoxNews.com the family feels helpless monitoring his case from afar.

“He is my cousin and I love him but I don’t know what I can do to help."
Dubai police adds Bugatti Veyron to its fleet

What could possibly be next?

The now famous Dubai police have added a new member to their supercar fleet, the all-mighty Bugatti Veyron.
At the beginning of the month we found out police authorities in Dubai recently made some expensive acquisitions for their car fleet as they bought a Chevrolet Camaro, Bentley Continental, Mercedes-Benz SLS, Ferrari FF, Lamborghini Aventador and an Aston Martin One-77. Now, they've added a new member to the list: a Bugatti Veyron.
We are wondering what car they possible could buy next. Perhaps a LaFerrari or a McLaren P1? It should be mentioned that these very expensive cars are not for high-speed patrol as the police uses them in the most luxurious areas of the city, most likely simply for show-off.
