I loved Don Rickles, right up there among my all time faves. His whole schtick was pure genius.

Here's a real treat...

Edit: moved it to the OP because it is so fucking funny :D

His best work was Kelly's Heros...

He was talented... but his style would not be understood today..

May Triumph the insult comic dog carry his torch on into the future.

As a kid, I went to a matinee on a Saturday afternoon with my folks at the Sands, Don Rickles did the lead in intro for Phyllis Diller, trading barbs. Don suggested plastic surgery and Phyllis told the joke, "if I have another facelift, I'll have a goutee...." Brought done the house. Being a kid, I didn't get it, kept asking my folks, "what's so funny?" A few years later, I got it.
RIP, funny, funny guy. And a WW2 destroyer veteran from the South Pacific too.

90 years young. The original insult comic.
Had his start in Vaudeville as a kid.

I remember him on Carson's "tonight show", keep Johnny in tears.

Cool. But I think you're getting your Naval rates and ranks messed up. A Seaman is E-3 while a 1st Class is E-6. At least it was that way in the Coast Guard and our ranks were like the Navy's.

The Navy change the naming of the rating just before the Korean war.
0-1 seaman became seaman recruit
0-2 seaman 2nd class became seaman apprentice
0-3 seaman 1st class became seaman
0-4 petty officer ranks and chief ranks purty much stayed the same.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.
