Are gays still tortured in Russia?
Honestly I think there is some discrimination in daily life towards gays but it is for the most part not prevalent. My daughter was close friends with several gay guys when she was in Moscow and aside from the occasional remark from some fool they never suffered any real abuse. In the business world there it seems your talents are more valued, one of those guys is a very well paid computer programmer. I have never witnessed any violence against gays myself but then homosexuals in Russia largely act and look like any other Russian and don't have that in your face gay I'm a victim of everything attitude you see in the west.
I hear that Moscow and St Pete both have thriving gay communities and while some forms of discrimination occur the average Russian could not care less just so long as you act as a good person should in public.
