U.N. political chief B. Lynn Pascoe says "well over" 7,500 people have died in Syria violence.




The U.N. Undersecretary-General told the Security Council on Tuesday that both the Syrian government and the international community have failed to stop 11 months of carnage that began with a government crackdown on civilian protests.

Pascoe says he cannot give exact casualty numbers, but says there are "credible" reports that more than 100 civilians are dying in the country daily.

Russia wanted a UN resolution that condemned violence from both Assad and the rebels and that asked for a cease fire from both sides. The Western powers opposed it, for obvious reasons. Regime change is the objective here, just like in Libya, so the west is feeding the conflict through funding, the supply of weapons and intelligence with Special Operations troops on the ground and spy/combat drones on the air.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The State Department has secretly funded Syrian opposition groups, according to diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

The cables show that the State Department has funneled as much as $6 million since 2006 to a group of Syrian exiles to operate a London-based satellite channel, Barada TV, and finance activities inside Syria, the Post said.
