Being alive is far different than being aware.

Life is the processing of nutrients to sustain a state of being and replication of of the organism.

Various levels of awareness have been attained by most animate organisms. From the simplest give and take with the local environment to the actual reconstruction of the environment to the artificial construction of enclosed habitats which protect the organism contained within in harsh or anti-life environments.

For a start.... have you got a few years?

There's the problem......these old terms no longer reflect what were discovering about self-awareness, conscience, and most importantly what is sentient.

What about the machines we think we make? Many are animated, and seem to have self-awareness. Are they alive, even if it a 'basic' form of existence?

What about when a machine attains conscience, as we currently define it? Can we, should we consider it alive?

In my opinion the speed at which technology is advancing, it won't be much longer that a sentient machine 'becomes'. Then look out!

Ask the oppisite....what is so good about it?

At the current level of technology Man has become a servant to the machine, while the machine makes itself.

How long before we become a slave for the machine (I guess I should capitalize this word now) when it the Machine obtains conscience, and then sentience?

I respect your belief, but all the evidence shows that life evolved.....it shouldn't be a hard thing to accept for a Christian, the Word of God written by Man is anecdotal in nature, not factual...look at it this way...what a wonderful and beautiful motor God has created in the evolutionary mechanism.

Personally I hope there is a creator.
