Default WaPo's Millbank Smacks Obama

Obama gave a speech yesterday?
Anyone on LL watch it?
Didn't think so.

Obama gave the same platitutes, same lies, same obfuscations and the same blame game.

What was new, is that Democrats didn't like the speech.

Quote:
I had high hopes for President Obama’s speech on the economy. But instead of going to Ohio on Thursday with a compelling plan for the future, the president gave Americans a falsehood wrapped in a fallacy.

The falsehood is that he has been serious about cutting government spending. The fallacy is that this election will be some sort of referendum that will break the logjam in Washington.

Fallacy first. “Both parties have laid out their policies on the table for all to see,” Obama said. “What’s holding us back is a stalemate in Washington between two fundamentally different views of which direction America should take. And this election is your chance to break that stalemate.”
He’s right about the stalemate. But he’s absolutely wrong that November offers an opportunity to break it. No scenario shows either party with a chance of amassing a solid governing majority of the sort Obama had when he took office. The way to break the stalemate is through compromise, not conquest.

And that leads to the falsehood. Despite his claim that “both parties have laid out their policies on the table,” to swamp the government’s finances. Obama has made no serious proposal to fix the runaway entitlement programs that threaten

“My own deficit plan would strengthen Medicare and Medicaid for the long haul by slowing the growth of health-care costs — not shifting them to seniors and vulnerable families,” Obama said. “And my plan would reduce our yearly domestic spending to its lowest level as a share of the economy in nearly 60 years.”

That’s incorrect. As Politifact has pointed out, Obama’s claim that he would reduce annual domestic spending to a percentage of gross domestic product not seen in 60 years is true only if you don’t count the enormous spending on programs such as Medicare. (Obama presumably means he would cut domestic discretionary spending to a 60-year low, a lesser boast.)

The rest of the article is worth a read too. I don't agree with Dana Millbank on everything, but I agree with this article of his than anything else he's written lately.

I did watch it, I still have no comment.

Why? Because they're all the same, exactly, doesn't matter, Republican or Democrat, they all do the same thing, exactly, it just gets wrapped up differently is all, but when you unwrap it, it's the same damn thing you got before.

I watched the beginning of the speech, but like most commentators noted, it went wordy and boring and old hat real quick so I turned it off.

I don't think they're the same, but again, no need to rehash that opinion collision.

What do you think about Millbanks saying, the way to end stalement is through compromise, not conquest?

Just another fallacy, they are not, I repeat NOT out to do anything for the people, it's all about what benefits them or rather who owns them, nothing more.

As your ex gov said, they should all have to wear fire suits, like they do in NASCAR with all their sponsors patched on it, lol.

I have never made the mistake of thinking that people in public sector are necessarily acting for the public good and not their own private advancement.

As for lobby groups, deal with it. People who are like minded are always going to get together and try to advance their agenda. That can even be done above board or it can be pushed into smokey locked rooms by regulation and mock outrage.

As for Jesse's comment, anyone who contributes more than $50.00 to a campaign has to be named as a donor. So, in a sense, those patches are there. It's just that most people don't actually look at them. I don't know if it would matter much if they did.

I disagree, the reason is because the only thing that they are supposed to be representing, they are not, but they all say that that's who they're there for, but I do agree with the backroom thing, it's always been that way, doesn't make it right, by any standards, and yes, I'm quite aware that I'm being an idealist on this.

I do think you are being an idealist.

I think politicians represent their constituents but if some constituents get together to promote a certain agenda, are they constituents or special interest groups? I think that each side of the political divide thinks the other side has special interest groups but their side only has concerned citizens.

The only lobby groups I really have problems with, (I mean as far as their existence goes, not all their agendas and ideologies) are the ones that result in crony capitalism. I am still just completely baffled that GE's Jeffrey Immelt got a law passed basically forcing everyone in California to buy his lightbulbs and then promptly moved the lightbult manufacturing plant to China and the LameStream Media has just been silent as a rock about it. Actually, I'm just completely amazed at the sheer volume of "Fuck the American People" jeffrey Immelt has been able to get away with. In a more enlightened age, he'd be tar and feathered and run out of the country on a rail. He's really more suited to be a Mexican cartel boss than someone who should be in the Administration.
