I'm not so sure, I would quantify that statement by saying there were no voluntary vegetarians in the stone age. I'm certain no one back then wanted to eat only veggies but had to at times. I am also certain insects made up a much larger part of our diet back then as well.

Speaking of eating insects, where do they fall on the veggi/vegan radar?

Anyone know?

I could also guarantee that they ate less meat in the stone-age than we do now. Based on nothing, just a wild guess...

I actually just shot three dogs I adopted because they were ruining my gay vegetable garden.

And I'll eat both if I have too. I'd prefer a steak though.

Every Living creature kills in order to survive. Even a cabbage drawing nutrients from the soil kills living things in those nutrients while creating another cabbage leaf. Many vegetarians were leather foot wear too although I have to admit, you rarely see a vegetarian wearing corned beef boots.

If for the reasons you state then yes.

If for the damning actions of agribusiness and the grain into meat energy/protein conversion then, no, no they aren't hypocrites.

Obviously I believe plants and fungi are forms of life as well. They have cellular activity, they grow and die, they're just not as complex as animal life.

So vegetarians are just as guilty of mass taking of life for sustenance as any meat eating person.
My Dad classes himself as a vegetarian for about 4-5 years now. Although he eats fish and eggs. And eats turkey at Xmas.

But the reasons why he classes himself as vegetarian is more to do with the crap they feed animals like steroids and rubbish food. The meat is also full of chemicals to preserve and flavour it as well as the toxins in the meat when you roast/fry it. They are called nitrites which are carcinogenic toxins.

It's not really a guilt thing afaik, more a health thing. btw, I find myself eating less and less red meat also probably for same reasons as my Dad. I like white meats tho like bird and also fish is nice.

My mother has never really eaten meat that I can remember, that's more about how the animals are killed to her though however.

As for vegetables, a plant/herb or fruit is not aware it is being killed. So it's quite different. Like eating an egg.

I used to know a vegetarian that took plankton pills everyday like vitamins. I suppose because of that, technically she wasn't a vegetarian.
