Was the Exodus natural or supernatural, fact or fiction?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbJ6qVsu_MU I have always had a problem with the notion that God would have hardened Pharaoh’s soft heart and pave the way for him to kill/murder the first born of Egypt. For God to do so would have been evil indeed. Do you think that science has explained the purported miracles as natural phenomena? From what I can see, the Jews who wrote the story did not take it literally. http://www.raceandhistory.com/histor...tingexodus.htm Should Christians recognize the O T stories as natural or supernatural, fact or fiction? It doesn't matter what you have a problem with. Believe what you want. We don't care.

I believe the exodus eludes to Egyptians fleeing Egypt, when their monotheism came under attack.

You couldn't be more wrong. How about actually reading the account before posting such stupidity.

If you mean the Torah/OT then they are not factual accounts, they are anecdotal and were written half a millennia or more after the events they relay, written mainly in the 700's BC according to Archaeological findings.

Of course it's not a literal fact. The Bible is not a scientific textbook. Take into account the age it was written, and the people who wrote it.
No Christian or Jew of any intellect considers religious scripture to be a factual account. It's completely impossible. In 2013, we struggle to get an impartial factual account of an event that occurs in a desert of Northern Africa during a conflict...and we have satellites, unmanned drones, cctv, on site reporters and correspondents, all with access to instantaneous worldwide communication that can stream all the action with the flick of a button. Yet a scripture with a story of northern african pilgrims written 4000 years ago, passed down through 20 generations of second hand story telling is meant to be factually correct? |

Did you notice the ignorance of the one who is supposed to be a believer? Quite telling that. It gives truth to this. "Whoever imagines himself a favorite with God, holds other people in contempt. Whenever a man believes that he has the exact truth from God, there is in that man no spirit of compromise. He has not the modesty born of the imperfections of human nature; he has the arrogance of theological certainty and the tyranny born of ignorant assurance. Believing himself to be the slave of God, he imitates his master, and of all tyrants, the worst is a slave in power." --Robert Ingersoll Regards DL |
