Because of that horse meat "scandal" (A fucking joke to call it a scandal IMO....), the stores up here are forced to withdraw some products from their stores.

Long story short: The health officials gave it a green light to give the stuff to homeless people.

Sure, they could have an "eat at own risk" disclaimer. It's not illegal to "serve" your house guests wild game so it shouldn't be illegal to "serve" your shelter guests wild game either, so long as THEY know what the risks are. (Which I'm sure they did)

And in all fairness, without the meat being properly inspected and with some local yokel redneck with pissy hands and shit under his fingernails doing the butcher... well... um... yeah, it all goes back to the whole "eat at your own risk" thing. Because the meat could very well be tainted by time it gets into the hands of the meat cutter.

BUT also don't forget that from the gubmint perspective (because do you actually believe they give a shit about the health of these people?) there's a little more motive for their actions than the potentially sick homeless person.

Gosh darn it, so not a single penny was made in the donation of that deer meet... and that's not fair!!!

In most of these programs, such as Hunters Helping the Hungry, the deer must be professionally butchered. The butchers still charge for it and the hunters still have to pay to have their deer processed. These hunters are out whatever money they were charged and the hungry are out any meat that was thrown away. Ridiculous.

Did they? Hooray if so... i only thought that they were still considering destroying it.

But i do think they did the right thing taking it out of the stores though.. they put those ingredient lists on for a reason. But horse and deer is yummy.

You gotta be careful with serving meat like that.

Parasites and such. If you cook it all properly i doubt there would be any problems, but it's still questionable serving meat from wild animals to a large group of people. Also if they do get food poisoning it's much more serious to them than if it were you or me.

Annoying? yes.

Being very cautious about the kind of food you serve homeless people? smart.

They should have checked with the shelter or health official before and avoided it. Nice thing to do donate it but be practical and call ahead.

Like PF said, it is professionally butchered and packaged before it is served. It is not just cut up in the dirt someone's back yard.
