I've been an audiophile ever since I was a teenager. 50 years now.
I've seen it grow from High-Fidelity, to Stereo, to Dolby and THX, to home entertainment systems with multiple feeds to independent zones. I started with the tube (valves) receivers/amplifiers from Carver, Ampex, Marantz, RCA, Zenith, Philips, and many others. As semiconductors took over, everybody went overseas. Our tax laws made it cheaper. The 'white face' machines from Sony, Pioneer, Akia, Toshiba, Fischer ruled. Then something changed..we figured out we could buy the components and construct a technology that is vastly superior to what came before. |

Now let us talk about what you have today.
as usual I'll start..... My oldest speakers are Advent 2's, but i don't use them, the 8" bass have dried out. I have two 2-way reconstructed Alec-Lancing cabinets rated at 250 watts that I use as my bass driver w/12" bass/5' closed back mid-range. My main drivers are Triad Golds that fill out the Dolby 7.1. The 2nd zones use Triads, Phase Tech, and 2 custom made 12' bass drivers. The main drivers are 2 Carver/Sunfire TGA-7401s' controlled by a TGA-401 processor. This gives me Dolby 7.1 in the living room and 5.1 in the sun-porch, with a spare stereo channel off the 2nd amp. A TGA-401 Receiver runs the bedroom in 5.1 at 100 watts, and leaves me with a 2nd stereo channel that I have yet to figure out where to put. Maybe the master bath! So, what do you got? |

Personally I use Tidal with Bluetooth 4 to a Loudspeaker Management System to 4 separate amps powering each pair of drivers and a 18 inch sub. Over 5000 watts but at full volume would start producing smoke.

who made the amp and the speakers? Might disperse them boxes to give a better sonic picture. |

What are your amps and your speakers? Are you using a computerized sound management system? Using 4 5k watt amps driving 8 large speakers. that's a professional sound reinforcement system. If you have had smoke come out of the amps or speakers.... Things are failing, an deservedly so! |

VR3 sub woofers from Kmart - polycone mids from infinity - titanium horn tweeters from cerwin vega all tied together with three separate passive crossovers and two three way toggles in the back of each to switch between dynamic range and impedance 8-16-32 respectively. The cabinets are old DOMUS3. Just moved in and put them in the corner for now .. as for the image separation yeah well it can wait. ![]()

My 2 12" driver cabinets are old Cerwin-Vega 24's, reconditioned with Infinity 12" poly-cone bass and 5" closed back mid-range, both rated @ 400 W. I re-ported the boxes to different frequencies, and put in 2 homemade 12dbm crossovers also rated at 400 W. These were made years before I got the Sunfire system, but they seem to be handling the current output side just fine. Do have to be careful driving them hard, 'cause things tend to walk off the shelves! |
