Personally, I don't use cordless tools for anything. But from my experience with them I'm partial to either Makita or DeWalt. Makita's free standing battery charger is really nice. If you weren't aware, DeWalt are made by Black and Decker. Cant speak on cordless, but B&D make nice commercial grade corded stuff.

And to Blue, I'm not positive but Ridgid started branding their name onto a whole bunch of stuff a few years ago that they didn't market before. Chances are your 'Ridgid' cordless whatevers are made by someone else. Not saying that's bad necessarily, just that it might also be B&D or another name brand.

Frankly, if I were in the market, I'd go Makita.

I tossed almost all my Makita's in the trash years ago, I got a couple of Rigid tools that I like too, one of my circular saws and one of the grinders are Rigid, the other grinder is a Makita, piece of crap, no one ever grabs for the Makita's in my shop, love the extra long cords on the Rigids, wished my Dewalt's had that long of a cord.

Since I did my carpentry nvq many years ago, all i've used since is Makita drills. Nothing has ever broke or gone wrong.

I hate cordless. Thats why I have a generator and a compressor on my truck.

If you cant break it with air, break out the torch.

It's six to one, half dozen t'other for me. I just like that the Makita charger also diagnoses whether your battery is dying, already dead, et cetera.

I've always just had an issue with DeWalt's prices, given that they're just fancier, re-branded B&Ds.

I use a B&D corded combo hammer drill/drill for everything. Got a clutch for screwing flush, it's variable speed, all I need. And I can pop it over to hammer and drill through concrete.

I almost scored a really sweet looking Ryobi multi pack for free from the radio station I used to work at, but the fuckers picked up their prize on the last day they could. The next day that shit would have been MINE.

Yeah, I got the drill/driver combo, a hand held reciprocating saw, a miter saw, an orbital sander and a corded drill. I've been bringing them on the jobs with me and putting them through the wringer and they've been doing great, so far. Oh, and a shop vac strictly for home. My skill saw is a Dewalt. 10 years old and still singing pretty.

Oh, and Ryobi is crap. Don't buy it unless you're just gonna use it for the one job.
