My Pitt/Lab mix is going through similar problems with lumps appearing. I have two removed so far, one of them the vet and the lab was sure it was a mass cell tumor. There are several different kinds of mass cell tumors, local kinds, spreadable, and dead in three months. I figured at worst she was dead in three months which has thankfully not happened, it was spreadable which means new lumps will appear which I'll have to spend $600-$800 a pop to remove, or it was just the local kind which means no further lumps. The cancer appears to be totally managable and my dog will likely live for a long time.

I would recommend to take your dog to the vet and get the tumor biopsied which will run you $100 - $200 or if the vet recommends removing it right away do so and they'll do a biopsy afterwards to give you more information on what type of cancer it is. In total that shouldn't run you more than $800.

Lip I hope it works out with your puppy dog! I have a hard time putting a dollar value on life... but your right, you don't want them to suffer at all.

Gerry said it the best!

The vet can possibly do a needle biopsy on the lumps to determine if they are cancerous or not. A dog I used to have had a lump on his chest and I asked for a needle biopsy rather than putting him under to have the lump removed. It turned out to just be a fatty lump, not cancer, and it wasn't going to affect his health, so I left it. It shouldn't cost as much as a surgical procedure.

I had a fatty lump once, thankfully she decided to divorce me.

Just went through that recently, I always handled it myself in the past, this time I couldn't make myself do it, so called a vet friend, he finally made it over and put her to sleep for us.......it was tough, but the point was we knew what was coming for her and didn't want her to suffer that.

Eventually, those lumps will burst open and be open, puss filled, and very smelly sores. The animal won't want to move, or be unable to and will lay there in it's own filth, it's more than we wanted her to suffer, it was better for her, not us, but it was humane imho.

My heart goes out to you. These wonderful creatures are so much more than just pets. I'm in my 50's, and I've been through this many times before. Putting down a beloved pet is soooo hard to do. But letting them suffer is by far worse. Take your dog to the vet and find out what is in his mouth. If it's cancer, then it's time. Euthanasia is your final act of love. It is quick and painless, and your beloved friend just goes to sleep.

I made this video last April and put it into the Yoursay section. I am not an especially religious person, but the question I ask is serious, and I guess I'll always wonder.

We euthanized our beloved Great Pyrenees, Spree, at age 8 because of hip dysplasia. I know I'll miss him forever (shown at the end).
