I have Acronis 10, it didn't help because it was only a problem on the XP machine

Sorted.
Gpt protected partition issue.

New one on me, not sure why a drive would come configured like that for a personal pc.

But that was it.
*committed to memory now*

A neighbor ruined a comps MB, so he bought another refurbished machine just like it, with a new MB in it, with a SATA HD. I took the HD out of the old one, that's MB wasn't SATA ready and put it in the new one using the ribbon and master/slaved it with the DVD player. That's all working fine.

Here's the problem, we wanted to use the SATA HD as an extra storage device, so I reformatted it ( FAT32 because it came with Windows 8 release preview as the OS, removed partition), the MB recognizes it, device manager even recognizes it, but when I click on My Computer, XP doesn't recognize it, it just doesn't show up. I can plug my laptop with Windows 7 on it into it and bam, there it is ready to use, so it's not the drive, yada, yada, it has to be something with XP. I've exhausted everything that I could think of, changing the selection in BIOS and the nine, I'm stuck and could use your expertize.

Thanks ahead of time.
OK, I just took a sec to read your problem. Its a old one actually. You have hit XPs 32 bit limit on accessing fat 32 volumes. Ii does not happen in all XP terminals, just most proprietary setups. I can tell just by the problem you are having, the drive is larger than 120 gig and is probably at least a 7200.

Your only solution to get a stable read right is to partition the drive in no larger than 100 gig partitions if you have to have fat 32, or LLM format it into ntsf and XP will see the whole drive at once.

In your setup, if you actually get it to read anything larger than actually about 80 to 90 gigs you will have all kinds of read write errors. I have experienced this problem many times back in the day of 9x to nt transition.

WOW, that is a bit of a odd one. I was sure it was the old non read write fat 32 problem, LOL..
