That's exactly what I was thinking.......that and the next president is going to be involved in a huge political fight a year into the presidency over an extension of war.

But this is where I disagree. Your concerns are based upon a belief that carrying on a war is up to the president and that Congress might interfere with that. But under our Constitution, the decision to carry out war lies solely with the Congress, and, by extension, the People. Our Founders were wise!

So in three years the next president just looks to the Congress and says,

"I will fight this war if you want me to. Or, I will end our involvement in the war, and ISIS won't be bothered by the U.S. It's up to you. Carry out your constitutional duty and decide."

This puts the responsibility where it belongs, and really, politically, the president is home free. The president would give his recommendation, but that would be it. There is no need for a president to try to force feed a war on the People that they don't support.

In my opinion, 3 years from now this will still be an ongoing conflict. And this enemy is soooooo evil and sooooo revolting that, no matter which party controls the presidency or the Congress, Congress will renew the resolution.

Hahahaha! A little humor to start the day with

But on a serious note, a couple little wiki searches gave me this info:

Jordanian Army: 90,000 active, 60,000 reserves
Saudi Army: 150,000 active

So why can't they take on ISIS? ISIS fighters are estimated to be around 30,000. Why are they so lame that the only way to rid the area of ISIS is for the U.S. to go half way around the world and do it when those armies of theirs are right there? We could supply the air power.

ideologically, you're right. But here's the thing, once we get a Republican President, the whole anti-war left is going to rise again. They're silent now because Obama is a Democrat and that's more important to them but they are seething at Obama silently.

When the time comes for a new resolution, there will be a new, sustained and malicious waves of attacks to undermine American resolve.

in other words, Obama ensures that the new president becomes embattled and our resolve again, revolves around domestic partisan hatreds rather than the objective of winning the war.

And....and to think that Bill Clinton did the exact opposite for the same reasons: he avoided taking on terrorist organisations in order to precipitate an event like 9/11 during the Bush years, thus guaranteeing a Democrat presidential hedgemony after Bush.

He wants to be clear on what it does and does not do but he didn't say what that is or is not.
Once again he's campaigning and intends to do nothing but lead from behind.
He want money from congress for which he will use without saying where it will go or how it is to be used.
If trust of him were gasoline he wouldn't have enough to run a piss ant motorcycle halfway around a BB.

Bill Clinton, according to his advisor Dick Morris, avoided taking on terrorists because Bill Clinton wanted to avoid being a war time president. Clinton also thought that these were matters for the criminal justice system and law enforcement and not for foreign policy or military matters. That's why Clinton did almost nothing after the WTC bombing in '93. he reacted more strongly to the Oak bomb than he did the WTC bombing.
