Never used MS security - always been an AVG and Spybot man; lately Avast and Malwarebytes. I never open stuff in my mailbox, but sometimes when you click on a titty site you get stuff, kinda like touching real titties.

Security is otherwise not a problem. I don't do much actual work on the internet and there's not enough money in my bank to bother stealing. I don't look at anything illegal so I've nothing to hide, and I've pretty much accepted everything we do on the net can be monitored. People are out there phishing, scamming and doing what they do, but I rely on them overlooking me. The free security suites work just fine for general use.

Just wish that Nigerian prince wold hurry up and deposit the funds...

As a security measure McAfee performed well enough, I must confess. But not any better than the free programs and its own intrusiveness and insistence has gotten worse over time. As I said, it behaves like a virus itself.

Well its gone now.

I just use the MS Essentials that's it,no problems.
Even the rare infection that required the use of the malicious software removal tool hasn't been used in over a year.
Your choice of course, truth of it is no matter how good the protection is you let them in it makes no difference.
Its how well they catch it and deal with it.
Essentials has done an excellent job for me.
Perhaps the third parties are getting desperate for revenue.
After all .. who really has an interest in keeping the OS safe?

Do any of you guys remember a while back McAfee got hacked.
Not a good thing to happen to an internet security company.
That was a BIG fuckup on their part.
At that time I was using McAfee through my ATT ISP subscription.
Also McAfee was HUGE! On my 'puter there was 1.2 gig sitting in the program folder.
Can you imagine how much more was scattered about in other folders and system elements!
I've now gotten rid of both of 'em.
I wanted to get Norton's....but they were a little expensive, and only gave an activation code, no hard copy. So I went with AVG, because I didn't find Avast in any of the 6 stores I went to.
