Question What's the status on Obamacare?

I know it was repealed in December, but then, in January, NY governor Andrew Cuomo filed a lawsuit to put a stop to the Skinny Repeal. So, what does this mean? Is Obamacare still in effect until or unless this lawsuit is resolved? In other words, does this mean that Obamacare may actually still stand for years to come, even though the bill passed? I get confused by all this political-court stuff, don't quite understand how it all works.

the most recent and relevant thing I can find on the fly via google / 'penalty for no health insurance 2018'

Quote:
The tax bill doesn't eliminate the penalty until 2019. That means that those who forgo health insurance for 2018 could still face a penalty. The penalty for not having health insurance this year is $695 per adult or 2.5 percent of household income, whichever is greater.Dec 20, 2017
it is very hard to get a straight answer out of anybody because they all seem to have an agenda, but I think the above is the short answer to it.

We are still going to have to pay the penalty at least two more times, then its gone.

so this lawsuit filed by the NY governor last month, attempting to block the skinny repeal bill, doesn't change anything? or does it? or does it only potentially change things for new york? that's where i'm getting confused.

EDIT: this is what i'm talking about

I would just ignore that, I think he's only doing this to try to slow down Trump and for votes in the upcoming election.

Thinking of it logically if one President can impose a tax another can reverse it, he's going no where with his lawsuit

yeah that's a really good question. My state , ct. is either part of that lawsuit too or filing their own. At this point it's atleast safe to say you need to pay till next year and we have a year to figure out what this law suit means .
I know that's not the answer you're looking for.

but how long do things like this take to get resolved? hopefully not years, bc the bill can't become official policy until this lawsuit either gets resolved/dismissed. hopefully dismissed before this bill is even supposed to go into effect!

it's confusing, isn't it? I feel like if anyone on LL would know for sure, it's Aquina, she likes to read all these 58467345 page policies and court documents, word-for-word. she understands them, too and is able explain them in plain english, she's fucking brilliant w/that shit. but idk if she'd wanna do that for me maybe she would for you, tho!
