Thats true, any new pc anyone buys should look to spend quite some time uninstalling garbage noone needs, then deleting leftover traces and msconfig/startup is hilarious when you see what they want to load up at startup...most people dont even know ho many processes are running and if they just tweaked just that their pc would run much faster.

I think the Lenovo I was looking at was gonna be about 2500 for an i5 with only 4 gig of memory and a weak video card. Altogether I only have ~1900 in this one. Don't get me wrong... I REALLY wanted the Lenovo. Best keyboard and the sturdiest laptop on the market. Plus the Lenovo looks good with the understated matte finish. I can't stand the little glossy things here and there on the toshiba. The Toshiba feels relatively cheap too, the case isn't as solid as anything Lenovo puts out. Ultimately I was lured in by the extra features and power on the Toshiba, especially a 3D Blue ray BURNER! I also love the keyboard on this new laptop. I expected to hate it but the keys have nice tactile feedback and make virtually NO noise. The sound system is way better than the Lenovo too.

Ultimately I might buy a cheap Lenovo to perform my technical writing on and use the Toshiba to waste time playing games, watching movies and of course... LiveLeak!

I am not a Microsoft fan either (with the glaring exception of Excel which is nivanna) so I dual boot to Ubuntu. I wish I had the balls to go sans Windows but too many applications I use work better there.

I am happy as a pig in poo because my new workplace is entirely Linux. If you are caught with Windows, you walk the walk of shame.

Me too, I have always built my own desktops going all the way back to the 386. (Had an Amiga prior)

I have often thought about why they don't have a scratchbuilt laptop market. I do know that hardware in a laptop generally doesn't follow the specs for standards and compliance.

As far as running a clean machine, I have an obsessive compulsive disorder. I clear my cache, prefetch, prune the registry, etc... nearly daily!

We're very much alike in keeping a clean computer. I religiously maintain my networks and machines.

On another note, from one techy to another, I can't wait until they produce the 1TB + SSDs at a reasonable price.

I still use both, but for a new business I'm starting I need a reliable platform for video editing and that's why I got this one. I had an ibook before but I'm suprised at how compatible with windows applications this one is. In any case, I can run windows in it if necessary.
