I recommended this documentary a few years ago on liveleak but I've noticed it's on YouTube now so here's the link.

Thank you, Dear Lady, for re-posting this.
It does a decent job of refuting the anti-nuclear mindset of the many different, and even divergent, special interests; while refuting the jerk-kneed hysterical responses.
It's not heavy on technical discourse, but that's to be expected.
Since most of these special interest groups are very weak on their own technical knowledge, while appealing to the emotional.

It is weak on the technicalities but the audience it's trying to reach, wouldn't understand them.

My hope is that eventually, we see the benefits or nuclear energy.

yep. Pretty much right. Crazies who don't understand the technology are pushing the agenda. It's frustrating.

See if I remember this right, last nuclear plant completed was in '77, last one commissioned in '82.

https://www.nrc.gov/reactors/new-rea...actor-map.html

GE/Hitachi may go belly up; not from construction costs, but the cost of inspections and regulations and the intentional feet-dragging by the related alphabets.

https://www.usnews.com/news/national...uilt-in-the-us

There are two in Georgia and SC just started, but they are small and of much older design.

https://www.newscientist.com/article...s-in-30-years/

That's the big problem we have over here, were most everyplace else doesn't, at least 10 alphabets in oversight that has an institutional anti-nuclear power bias in the deep state bureaucrats that oversees the construction and operation of these plants.

No one wants to tackle the technological advancements needed for the new plants because of the prohibitive cost and won't get a return on them.
Let alone all the alphabets and enviro-wackos and lawyers that are going to be all over them too.

That's pretty much the problem with building any reactors. The knee jerk activism from idiots who don't know anything about nuclear energy and the politicians who pander to them, close it down by scare tactics and excessive regulation and permitting.

We could have been energy independent decades ago if it hadn't been for the regressive left and the democrat commie lovers. We could have pulled all our capital out of the middle east in the 1970's and cut off their ability to have Islamists run around the world acting like the little shits they are, before I was born.

But whatever is good for America is bad for the Democrats.

Did you take a look at the 1st link I posted, and where most of the plants are? Vast majority east of the Mississippi. that should tell you something, about the socio-political divide after WW2. Still goes on today.

I agree with you in certain respects of what your saying.
Energy independence is multifaceted in it's application.
There is better uses of petroleum than mass transportation.
Go back 150 years, you'll see the first cars were battery operated!
The petro-chemical science has advanced so far it does not need to make gasoline or diesel or even kerosene. But if that happened the price of oil would collapse so far as to make it a viable energy source against any other energy source.

Remember when Bush 2 advanced a hydrogen chassis?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/02/06/bush-energy/

Then this happened

https://www.treehugger.com/cars/obam...r-funding.html

We all know the Democrats, being the Global Socialist that they are, don't care about this country or us.
All they want to do is get rich off their forriner friends and sell us out!

Unfortunately, like the hydrogen fuel cell, the lobbyists of energy companies have priority over the public and national interest putting their profits and graft before We the People.
