Default Recalls

Well, this is interesting...

I recently bought the S&W M&P Shield .40, and my buddy recently purchased the Springfield XDS .45.

Both have been recalled in the last couple of weeks. The Shield for a faulty drop safety feature that "may cause the weapon to discharge if dropped" and the XDS for an issue that may cause the firearm to discharge when loading a round or a double fire when the trigger is pulled.

Both companies are rectifying the situation and have long storied histories and amazing reputations, but these are two of the most popular weapons on the market for conceal carry and this recall is going to affect hundreds of thousands.

Ive shot the M&P and was a very comfortable gun. Recalls happen a lot though. Just had to send my slim Taurus back a few weeks ago, and also my ar-22.

still kind of weird for a production model from S&W to be recalled

Yeah, it's a very comfortable firearm. Has a little snap back making it hard to double tap accurately, but all in all, a fine little gun.

Yeah...that sucks. From what I hear, Springfield has a team dedicated to this issue, so I've heard they're handling it well, but considering the numbers, I can't imagine it being a very quick fix and send back.

We have quit stocking Taurus revolvers chambered in .22LR, .22MAG, .38SPL and .357MAG due to the high number of warranty repairs per units sold. Rough/chattered chambers lead to sticky extraction failures. When Taurus does it right, the guns are excellent, but a 20% warranty repair rate is just too high. We've had no problems with .45LC/410GA Judges or anything in .44MAG calibers.

Recalls and warranty work just stinks when you consider everyone having to do everything twice: the customer has to come into the store again to drop it off (and again to pick it up), the store has to log it in and send it back, the manufacturer has to receive it, fix it, and send it back, and then the store has to call the customer (if the customer hasn't just called for the 12th time to find out if it's back yet...) to let them know it's back.....the whole process is a giant pain in the ass for everyone involved. Seems like the bean counters just want to get product out the doors. Quality is fine as long as it doesn't take longer than two seconds. So they save a minute or two, ship a defective, and then have to spend 20 minutes to a half hour making it right. AAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrghhh!!

The Springfield XDS recall is going to cost Springfield Armory a bundle. It really pays to torture test any firearm you intend to use to defend your life with before you trust it. Smoke those bugs out with at least 100 rounds.

I will NEVER buy a Taurus.
First time I shot one of their revolvers, 454 casull, at a club shoot, the wheel locked up with less than a hundred rounds through it.

Then someone tried to convince me to try/buy their 1911.
also misfired several times and had to clear 2? jammed actions also in less than 100 rounds, this was a pistol that had been through it's break in and they blamed the ammo, that was brand new Winchester that I proceeded to fire without fail from my Hk that hadn't been cleaned in over 500 rounds.

HK for me.
Dependability is worth the cost.

I have a few Taurus pistols, never had any troubles except with the slim 9mm. My .45 is tops, never jams, no matter what ammo I use.

Yeah, I bought a pair of those Taurus 24/7 compacts in .40, and I sold them two weeks later.

Really clunky shitty guns. I had a couple of extraction issues during the first run, but I attributed it "new gun" stiffness. Either way, I didn't like the feel or the size once I actually was utilizing them, so I promptly sold them. Then the guy I sold them to called me like a week later and was bitchin' that they were having feeding issues as well as extraction issues.

I told him about the extraction issue up front, so I asked him.."What do you want me to do about it? Send them to Taurus."

I wasn't a dick about it, but he bought one and then bought the other like two weeks later.

I haven't heard back from him since, so I'm assuming all is well, but either way, I don't like their guns at all. I bought my wife a snub 4 shot .38 revolver from Taurus a long time ago and had really liked that one, but I would never buy one of their pistols again.
