There's a reason they haven't ever enforced it. Because if they did take it to court it would be struck down, then every state with bigoted legislation would have to amend it. If they have time to "reaffirm" the national motto as "In God We Trust," even though it was already the national motto and they just wanted to rub everyone's face in it, then I think they have time to pass some federal legislation that strikes down any laws banning atheists from public office.

That appeared to be the logic Tuesday evening as the House debated whether “In God We Trust” should be the national motto. Of course, “In God We Trust” already is the national motto, guaranteed by an act of Congress in 1956.

And “In God We Trust” had already been reaffirmed once before as the national motto, by another act of Congress in 2002

Still, on Tuesday, the House spent 35 minutes debating whether the motto should be re-reaffirmed.

Imagine the Fox News faux outrage if these were laws aimed at religious people as opposed to atheists. Shit would be overturned and amended in a week or less and I'd totally agree with them. Instead, it's the 'who gives a shit about them' atheists and we just have to deal with it until someone takes it to court.

I disapprove of such thinking 100%. I believe every citizen should be allowed to operate under the same, all inclusive rules. I despise double standards when it comes to how we place a value on a human being. There are many other factors to a candidate that should take precedence when considering them to be representatives or leaders. One consideration should definitely be competency. We have witnessed far too many "good guys" who you could drink a beer with and can relate to based on their religion that were absolutely TERRIBLE representatives / leaders.

I am with you on your sentiment about some state constitutions are in conflict with the federal constitution. I just disagree about the Pennsylvania Constitution being in conflict with the federal one.

Yeah, you should chill ... you're making a big deal out of nothing ... this country has bigger problems than some shitty state laws that nobody has ever heard of, or what religious symbols are on govt property ... they should just print "In Big Government We Trust" on our fucking money ...
